Bike Show Modus Operandi, communique

The (2nd Annual) Montreal Artistic Bicycle Show brings together Bicycle Artists from across Canada and the US to Montreal for a celebration of the bicycle in all of its forms. The show provides a venue for artists to share with the public their cycling-related creations, from hand-made bicycles to jewelry, clothing and other accecories with a decidely bike-related theme. The MABS offers visitors the opportunity to see first hand unique cyclo creations, to meet the artists, and to see how these pieces come to life.
The show will also provide an opportunity for lovers of bicycles to share their passion with fellow cyclists in less-fortunate nations-the proceeds of the show will create bicycle tool boxes to be shipped with containers of bikes by Cyclo Nord Sud.

Show Basics

Montreal Artistic Bike Show (preliminary name)

Where: To be Determined. Most agree that although Cycle Nord Sud was a great location for the last show, it may not be big enough for the 2009 edition.
Marie Andre has started to contact potentional sites; there are no shortage of great spaces, but most are quite expensive... The site needs to have space for valet bike parking (I'd venture for up to 150 bikes), ideally be close to a metro, be over roughly 7000 square feet.

When: April 18 & 19th, 2009
This can change but it is roughly the same time as last year, that is, just as spring is in full swing, the 22nd is Earth Day

Who: Participants to include: Bike artistans, defined as those that create bicycles and bicycle accesories by hand.
Bike solidarity groups (Right to Move, Velogik, Montreal a Velo, Cyclo Nord Sud),
Organized by volunteers, some from CNS, some from RTM, some non-affiliated- we threw out the idea of giving our organization team a name. Any ideas?
Deux Roue sur Terre

Goals: Raise funds for "Tools for the South", tool boxes to be added to the 10 containers CNS sends south per year, funds for CNS, funds for bike theft prevention in Montreal (?)
Celebrate the bicycle and those who create/support/share them
Raise awareness of challanges to greater bicycle adoption (theft, etc.)

Introduction

Hi all

Here is the blog Marie Andre and I have put together for the organziation of the bike show. Following our preliminary meeting last Wednesday at Vice Versa, I've continued to receive emails about interesting ideas as well as important issues that we'll need to tackle if this show is to work.
I have tried to make this straight forward, but there will of course be edits and alterations to make this more useful for all of us.
I've broken down the themes and tasks, with the hope that you will all gain some more inspiration while also thinking about which role you feel you can take on.
I'll encourage all of you to post to this blog so that we can all be in the loop as to what has been accomplished as well as what needs to be done.
There is a huge amount of work that needs to be done in order that this show is a success; I am confident however that with good organization and you dedication that we can pull off something truely wonderful.
